Zalischuk and Gibbs make top three, joined by Belak

It was Carter Zalischuk’s biggest weekend as a King and he is this week’s first star in the Parkland Source for Sports Three Stars of the Week.

1st Star: Carter Zalischuk

The former Parkland Ranger scored his first goal as a King in the third period of Friday’s game off a great pass from Aidan Brook. It was a special moment for Zalischuk who skated to the bench in pure excitement after scoring his first junior goal.

Then one night later, Zalischuk rushed down the left wing and fired a perfect pass in front to fellow Dauphinite Rylan Gibbs who finished off the play in style by scoring in front of his hometown fans.

Zalischuk is a player that pushes himself to win battles every shift and he’s now finding some offensive success in his first year with his hometown junior team.

2nd Star: Marko Belak

Impressive. That’s the word that can be used to describe Belak’s first game with his new team. Coming off an incredible season with his high school team in Minnesota, Marko looked equally as impressive in his debut in the MJHL.

In a tight 2-1 win against Virden, Belak finished with 21 saves and several were highlight reel saves. Cool, calm and collected in the net, Marko has great size and if his first start was any indication of what Kings fans can get used to, fans will be in for a treat.

Here is what Marko had to say after Saturday’s win.

3rd Star: Rylan Gibbs

It was Zalischuk who scored his first goal as a King over the weekend, Rylan Gibbs achieved that feat earlier this season at Credit Union Place.

But as noted above, Gibbs scored a huge goal on a pass from his friend and it was the game-winner on Saturday.

Gibbs now has four goals in his rookie season with the team and his most recently gave the Kings their seventh win of the season. Pair Rylan’s great speed with his laser shot and he will continue to be a pain for his opponents.

Season-long standings:

Five points are up for grabs for the first star each week, three points go for the second star and a single point is up for grabs for the third star
