Belak shines in debut, Gibbs scores winner

Rylan Gibbs and Carter Zalischuk are both hometown favourites and they teamed up to score the winning goal on Saturday while the new goaltender in town was rock solid.

Driving down the left wing, Zalischuk fed Gibbs in front of the net, and he did the rest and the goal stood up as the game winner as Dauphin downed the Virden Oil Capitals, 2-1.

Marko Belak was tremendous for Dauphin in the game. In his debut with his newest team, the netminder turned away 21 shots and some of them were grade A opportunities from Oil Capital forwards.

Myles Yearwood opened up the scoring in the game before Andrew Blocker tied the game up.

The Oil Capitals had 10 shots in the third period; however, Belak stood strong as the Kings played a solid defensive game in all. Dauphin was also perfect on the penalty kill as they went 4-for-4.

With the win, the Kings earned three of a possible four points over the weekend and they earned their seventh win. With their 16 points, Dauphin is now tied with Virden for second in the West Division.
