Wolverines Take Out Kings

DAUPHIN, MB – The Dauphin Kings had chances early on but couldn’t finish on them, as the Waywayseecappo Wolverines skated to a 5-2 victory Friday night at Credit Union Place.

The Kings carried the play in the first 20 minutes of the hockey game, out shooting Wayway 5-1 in the first 5 minutes and 12-10 in the first period but it was the Wolverines who led 1-0.

In the second the Wolverines added two to their total to go up 3-0. Then in the third they pulled away before the Kings made the contest 4-1 late in the frame. Wayway would add one more before the final buzzer. Keaton Leininger (8) had the Kings lone tally Friday with Ashton Clark getting the only assist on the power play goal.

Special Teams were mixed for Dauphin as they went 1 for 5 on the Power Play but 5 for 6 on the Penalty Kill.

Brandon Holtby (5-11) suffered the loss in goal. He stopped 34 of 39 shots while the Kings had 41 towards the Wayway goal.

The loss drops Dauphin to 7-19-4 on the regular season. They’ll now get set to close out their home stand on Saturday when they welcome the Virden Oil Capitals to town. The game is FREE to attend and will feature the Tractor Lotto Draw after! Thank you to Reit-Syd Equipment for sponsoring the game!
