WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - The Dauphin Kings played from behind all evening and it cost them in a 4-2 loss to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Tuesday night.
Dauphin's slow start didn't see them fall behind in the opening period, but the club did trail 1-0 midway through the second period. Dauphin would respond with four minutes to play in the frame when Avery Smith scored on a shorthanded breakaway for his first of the campaign. The joy was short lived as Wayway continued on the power play and would score to retake the lead.
The two teams went to the third period with the Wolverines in front 2-1. Wayway would gain some insurance early in the frame. After that it was all Kings. Cole DeKoninck would notch his first of the year on the power play to get his team within one. Dauphin's pressure would continue and Grady Hobbs had appeared to tie the game three, but the call was flipped and the goal was waved off.
The Wolverines would then add an empty netter to take the contest 4-2.
Dauphin out shot Wayway 29-25 in the game. Bryan Landsberger played well but suffered the loss in goal.
Power plays saw the Kings finish the night 1 for 5 while the Wolverines were 1 for 4.
Dauphin sees their record drop to 1-2-0 on the season. They'll now get almost a full week off before their next game action on Monday when they head to Winnipeg for the MJHL's Showcase. On Monday the Kings tangle with Swan Valley. Tuesday they take on Selkirk. Both games are 6:00pm starts.
