Kings Bounce Back In Their Home Opener

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings treated over 1,000 fans to a 6-4 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders Saturday night at Credit Union Place.

The Stampeders were the ones who opened the scoring on this night. Notching the opening goal just 11:51 into the affair. The Kings would respond and even the score at one late in the first when Baron Thompson tallied his first of the campaign.

In the second period the Kings controlled most of the game and were rewarded two times. First Carter Sawchuk scored Dauphin's first man advantage goal of the season, then Baron Thompson (2) picked up a power play goal of his own right before the end of the frame to make it a 3-1 Kings lead.

In the third Dauphin continued their control until they got into a little penalty trouble. First the Kings added two goals, making it a 5-2 lead. Nakodan Greyeyes (3) and Brendan Arnold scored Dauphin's first two of the final frame. Arnold would later add an empty netter to make it 6-3 before the Stampeders got back and made it 6-4.

Bryan Landsberger took the win between the pipes for the Kings Saturday. He turned away 42 of the 46 shots he faced. Most of which on the penalty kill. His team fired 38 at the Stampeders' net.

Power plays saw Dauphin end the night 2 for 6 while the Stampeders finished 2 for 8.

The win improves the Kings early season record to 1-1-0. Dauphin now gets a couple days off before returning to action on Tuesday when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Game time is 7:30pm!

The next Kings home game goes Friday October 4th when the Portage Terriers come to town.
