Trade Deadline: Kings Make 2 Deals, Briscoe Returns

DAUPHIN, MB - The annual MJHL/CJHL Trade Deadline took place on Wednesday and the Dauphin Kings made a couple notable moves.

First the Kings made a trade with the OCN Blizzard, sending D-man Riley Shamray north in exchange for former Parkland Ranger Dustin Mozdzen (99). The Alonsa product has seven goals and five assists in 31 contests this season.

Dauphin also received current Parkland Ranger blueliner Taron Topham (01) and future considerations. Topham has two goals and seven assists in 28 games for the Rangers this season.

"We certainly haven't gotten the results we wanted this year and at some point you need to look to the future. This trade brings in two local Parkland hockey players that will play for the Kings and make an impact both on and off the ice" says Kings Director of Hockey Operations Scott McCallum.

McCallum took over the Director of Hockey Operations for the Kings back in December.

"Both kids are hardworking hockey players and those are the type of guys we're looking to surround our organization with" added McCallum.

Following the trade with OCN the Kings made a deal with the CCHL's Ottawa Junior Senators, sending forward Danny Pion to the club for future considerations. Pion had requested to be moved closer to home at the start of the new year.

Later in the day Dauphin received news that forward Ian Briscoe would be returning to the team from the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds. Briscoe has been in the Kings system for three seasons and spent the last third of the 2016-17 campaign with Dauphin, scoring six goals and adding 10 assists in 22 affairs.

The Kings would like to thank both Riley Shamray and Danny Pion for their contributions to the hockey club and wish them great success for the rest of the season. At the same time we'd like to welcome Ian Briscoe, Dustin Mozdzen & Taron Topham back to the Parkland!
