DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings and Swan Valley Stampeders played a tight affair Tuesday night at Credit Union Place, but when the dust settled the Kings came out on top 2-1 in overtime.
The game was a scoreless one all the way until the third period when Jaymes Knee, who was overlooked by the MJHL selection committee for the upcoming showcase with the SJHL scored a nice goal on a breakaway to give his club a 1-0 advantage.
Late in the third the Stampeders would tie things up to send the contest to the extra frame.
In overtime Riley Shamray played the hero, scoring with less than a minute to play, poking the puck home on a second opportunity.
Special Teams did not hit the score sheet on Tuesday. The Kings finished the night 0 for 3 while Swan Valley ended 0 for 4.
Brennan Kitchen, another player on the Kings who was overlooked for the MJHL/SJHL Showcase, played excellent. He stopped 44 of 45 shots he faced on Tuesday, bringing his save percentage in the last two games to .956. Dauphin fired 32 shots on the Swan Valley goal.
The victory is Dauphin's 10th of the campaign, putting them at 10-29-2 on the year. Next up for the Kings is a two game road swing beginning on Friday when they square off with the Terriers in Portage. Game time is 7:30pm!
