Steelers Slip Past Kings

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings battled back from two one goal deficits Saturday night but couldn't squeeze any points out of the visiting Selkirk Steelers in a 5-3 loss.

Dauphin opened the scoring Saturday night when Matt Bartel picked up his 6th of the season on a setup from Jaymes Knee. Matt Boren drew the second assist. The Steelers would respond late in the first period when Nico Labossiere would notch his first of three on the evening.

In the second period the Steelers struck first when Labossiere tallied again, making it a 2-1 advantage for Selkirk. Wilson Northey (8) would get the Kings back on even terms on the man advantage about four minutes later.

The two teams would go into the final frame knotted at three. Selkirk would grab the go ahead goal at the midway point but Mason Fischer (5) would even things up for the Kings once again. Laboissere would score the game winner with about four minutes to play in the third. Dauphin had great pressure for the final 2:30 but they couldn't get the puck past Steelers' goaltender Zach Bennett who took the win between the pipes. Selkirk added an empty netter with less than a minute to play to make the score 5-3.

Brennan Kitchen was very good in goal for Dauphin Saturday, he turned aside 43 of 47 shots for his club, including some key saves in the first 20 minutes.

The Kings won the Special Teams battle on Saturday, they went 1 for 2 on the man advantage and 4 for 4 on the Penalty Kill.

Dauphin will get the next two games off before concluding their four game home stand on Tuesday when they face the Portage Terriers at Credit Union Place, puck drop is slated for 7:30pm!
