STEINBACH, MB - The Dauphin Kings hung around with Steinbach for most of the night but let their fourth game of the regular season slip away in the third period in a 6-1 loss to the Pistons Friday night.
In the opening frame Dauphin got off to a tough start when the Pistons scored on their first shift. Later on in the period, however, the club would respond when Riese Gaber notched a goal during a Kings five-on-three man advantage. Gaber now leads the MJHL in goals scored with five on the young season. The Pistons would later regain their lead and take it to the intermission.
In the second period the play was even but Steinbach out shot Dauphin 15-7 and picked up the only goal to make it 3-1 heading into the third.
The Kings played well in the first half of the third period but couldn't capitalize on any of their chances, including a breakaway post which was hit by Jaymes Knee. Eventually the Pistons would break through to take the affair 6-1.
Matt Kustra suffered the loss in net for Dauphin with 38 saves on 44 shots while the Kings fired 26 on the Steinbach goal.
A positive for Dauphin on Friday was their Penalty Kill which went 5 for 5 against the Pistons. The Kings Power Play, meanwhile, was 1 for 5.
Now Dauphin gets set for the second half of back-to-back games on Saturday when they visit the Winkler Flyers for the first time this season. Game time is 7:30pm!
