DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings and Wayway Wolverines played a mostly defensive affair Saturday with the Kings coming out on top.
There was no scoring in the contest until the third period when Dauphinite Bradyn Smelski pulled his hero card out with 6:24. Smeslki (1) pushed home a loose puck after Mitchell Joss couldn't quite send it over the goal line.
The game was a mostly neutral zone contest with both teams making mistakes along the way.
Waywayseecappo had numerous chances throughout the night but both the Dauphin Kings penalty kill and goaltender Brennan Kitchen stood tall. Kitchen made 24 saves for the shutout and his club killed off numerous penalties in the third period to secure the victory. Dauphin had 25 shots Saturday.
With the decision the Kings now find themselves in a tie for top spot in the MJHL. They're 9-5-0 and have won three straight games. Dauphin will now get a week off before their next action, it happens Friday when they welcome the Winkler Flyers to Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm.
