DAUPHIN, MB - A lackluster effort on home ice cost the Dauphin Kings Friday night in a 5-1 loss to the Winkler Flyers.
The Kings couldn't get anything going throughout the night, and bad penalties didn't help the team's cause in the affair.
In the opening 20 minutes Dauphin couldn't get on the board and fell behind 1-0. That was followed by two more goals against before the end of the second period.
The final frame saw Dauphin pick up the pace a little bit early on but the club could only muster one goal. Bryon Fobair tallied his fourth of the campaign with George King and Landon Russell drawing assists. That made it 4-1 with half a period to play, but the Kings couldn't continue their momentum. The Flyers would add their final goal with about three minutes to play.
Dauphin did not have many power play chances Friday with just two opportunities. The Flyers had six.
Brennan Kitchen took the loss in goal. Stopping 41 of 46 shots while his team had 32 shots on the Winkler goal.
The loss puts the Kings to 9-6-0 on the season.
Now the club gets set for what will be a very busy five weeks. For the next five weeks Dauphin will play three games a week with their next lengthy break not coming until the middle of December. Next up for the Kings is a date with the Stampeders in Swan River on Tuesday. They'll be back at Credit Union Place on Friday to skate with the Flyers again. Game time is slated for 7:30pm.
