Kings Take Down Wolverines

WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - A bad first period didn’t hurt the Kings as the club improved their exhibition record to 3-1-0 with a 3-2 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Monday night.

Dauphin’s rough first period saw the team get out unharmed and scoreless with the Wolverines. Wayway did hold the advantage in shots, going 10-7 on the Kings.

In the middle frame the Wolverines drew first blood at the midway point on a breakaway chance right after the Kings had changed goaltenders. Wayway would hold a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes but it was clear Dauphin was coming on. The Kings out shot the Wolverines 16-7 in the second period.

The third period saw Dauphin control the play for the most part and score all three of their goals. Riley Buller tallied on a nice tip off a Matt Boren shot. Then after the Wolverines regained the lead Ian Tookenay got Dauphin back on even terms with a goal on his own. Jaymes Knee would score the game winner on a loose puck at the side of the net.

Brody Palmer started the game for the Kings and played very well between the pipes. He stopped all 13 shots he faced while his counterpart Bryan Landsberger turned aside eight of ten. Dauphin had a total of 29 shots on the Wayway goal.

Power Plays had Dauphin going 0 for 3 while Wayway went 0 for 2.

The win puts the Kings at 3-1-0 on the pre season. They’ll now get two days off before returning to action on Thursday when they head south to Virden to battle the Oil Capitals. Game time for that affair is 7:30pm!
