VIRDEN, MB - The Dauphin Kings are winners of three in a row following a 5-3 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals Thursday night in the southern part of the province.
It wasn’t a great game for the Kings from start to finish, but the club did get better as the night went on.
In the first 20 minutes the Kings fell behind 1-0 but responded when Grady Hobbs potted home his first of the pre season. Dauphin and Virden ended up even at one after 20 minutes.
In the second the two teams traded goals once again, Virden first and Dauphin second. The Kings got theirs from D-man Wayde Johannesson. You could see the Kings starting to take over in the late stages of the second period and that was the case for most of the third.
The final period saw Dauphin out shoot the Oil Capitals 18-7. The Kings pulled away in the last six minutes with nice goals from Brendan Arnold and Carter Sawchuk. Johannesson scored the empty to give Dauphin the 5-3 decision.
Brody Palmer started the game for the Kings and stopped 14 of 16 shots. Brennan Kitchen took over in the mid stages of the contest. He turned aside 11 of 12 shots. The Kings fired 39 on the Virden goal.
Dauphin had two man advantages while Virden had three. Both teams failed to score on their chances.
Next up for the Kings is their final exhibition game. It goes down Friday night when they entertain the Wayway Wolverines at Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm!
