Kings Lose First Game In Three Weeks

DAUPHIN, MB - Nothing seemed to be clicking for the Dauphin Kings Tuesday night as the club fell 5-2 to the visiting Wayway Wolverines.

Dauphin played sloppy all evening with missed passes and shots being the main course of the night.

In the opening period Wayway started the scoring just over two minutes in. Dauphin forward Austin Lamotte (8) responded less than a minute later, keeping his point streak (9 games) intact with Jaxon Heeney and Grady Hobbs grabbing the assists. However, before the period was out the Wolverines would notch two goals to make it 3-1 heading into the middle frame.

The second period saw the Kings play better, but the club would find themselves down 4-1 before Grady Hobbs (21) hammered one home late to make it 4-2.

Dauphin would start the third period on the man advantage but a shot on the PK beat Zach Grouette who had replaced Matthias Smith after the fourth goal against. With the score 5-2 Wayway would coast to the victory.

Smith turned aside 11 of 15 shots while Grouette allowed one goal on 12 shots. Dauphin had 27 shots on Tuesday.

Special Teams had Dauphin going 0 for 5 while Wayway ended 1 for 6.

The loss is the Kings' first in almost a month and drops them to 16-11-3-2 on the season. The group will now get two days off before heading to Winkler on Friday for a key double header with the Flyers over the weekend. Game time Friday and Saturday is 7:30pm.

Dauphin returns to Credit Union Place next TV Tuesday when they host the Selkirk Steelers. The contest will mark the start of a three game home stand before the Christmas break kicks off on December 22nd.
