DAUPHIN, MB - Goaltending was the difference Wednesday as the Dauphin Kings dropped a 7-2 contest to the Winnipeg Blues at Credit Union Place.
The Kings came out flying in the opening 20 minutes, putting up 19 shots to Winnipeg's six, but they couldn't get anything past Jeremy Link. The Blues, meanwhile, got one by Bryan Landsberger to have a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
The second period saw Dauphin pretty much quit as they gave up five goals and scored one of their own. Ian Tookenay had the lone Dauphin goal in the frame, his fourth of the campaign.
In the final frame the Kings played well again, but it was too little too late. Grady Hobbs (13) scored the only goal of the period for Dauphin while his team gave up one more at the midway point.
Final shots Wednesday were 48-44 Dauphin.
The Kings went 1 for 3 on the man advantage while the Blues ended 0 for 2.
Next up for Dauphin is a key two game set with the Steinbach Pistons over the weekend. Friday and Saturday the two teams will face off at Credit Union Place in what could be a first round series preview.
Game time both nights is 7:30pm!
