Kings End 2018 With A Victory

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings used a strong third period to earn two points over one of the hottest teams in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League Saturday night.

Dauphin beat the Virden Oil Capitals 2-1 with both of their goals coming in the final frame.

The opening period wasn't a great one for the Kings. They gave up the lead early when the Oil Capitals scored on their first power play of the night just over two minutes into the contest.

The teams would go back and forth the rest of the night with no goals coming in the middle frame.

The third period saw Dauphin's Kolby Johnson capitalize on a chance in the low slot. His fourth since joining the Kings tied his team up at one with 15 minutes left in the final frame. Eventually Dauphin would get a power play late in the period and Riley Buller used his hero card to tally the game winner, swatting a loose puck home in front of the Virden goal.

Ethan Slobodzian picked up the win between the pipes for the Kings, he stopped 26 of 27 shots he faced. Dauphin had 30 shots Saturday.

Both clubs scored on the man advantage in the contest.

The win is Dauphin's 18th of the season, putting them at 18-16-4 as the Christmas break hits. Now the Kings get just over a week off. They won't return to the ice until January 4th when they visit the Winkler Flyers to kick off a two game in two night road swing.

From the team, staff and board of directors of the Dauphin Kings, Merry Christmas!
