WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - The Dauphin Kings and Wayway Wolverines went back and forth Friday night and it was the Wolverines coming out on top 3-2.
The opening period saw the Kings grab the lead when Brendan Arnold snagged his third of the season on a battle in the goal crease.
Wayway would respond, but not until the second period when they tallied on a man advantage in the final two minutes. The game got ugly in the second period with the Wolverines taking the most penalty minutes on the night. Their 86 included a match for spearing and a four minute spearing penalty after Cole DeKoninck was struck in the face late in the period. Dauphin had 78 penalty minutes.
In the third period the Kings would take the lead on the power play with Carter Sawchuk scoring his 10th of the campaign from DeKoninck and Liwiski. Wayway would bounce back, however, scoring two goals in about five minutes. Dauphin would have some chances late, but couldn't get the puck to the back of the net to force overtime.
The Kings had 36 shots Friday while the Wolverines put 30 on Bryan Landsberger. Both teams tallied once on the man advantage.
The loss puts the Kings at 17-16-4 on the season. They'll wrap up 2018 on Saturday when they welcome the Virden Oil Capitals to Credit Union Place. The game is sponsored by Fusion Credit Union and it gets going at 7:30pm!
