WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - No goals on the power play and a lack of finish cost the Dauphin Kings in a 3-1 loss Friday night to the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo.
Dauphin had nine power play opportunities Friday night including a lengthy 5-on-3 but they couldn't capitalize.
Both teams had chances in the opening period but there was no score after 20 minutes. Dauphin led the shot clock 15-6.
In the second Dauphin heavily outplayed the Wolverines, outshooting them 19-7 but they couldn't find the back of the net. Wayway, meanwhile, tallied twice. Once on the man advantage and once shorthanded.
The Kings continued to play well in the third period, and late in the frame Charles Massey (3) was rewarded shorthanded to make it a 2-1 game. The Wolverines would score an empty netter to put the contest away a few moments later.
Shots were heavily in favour of Dauphin as the Kings out shot the Wolverines 47-23. Matthias Smith took the loss between the pipes, turning aside 20 of the 22 shots he faced.
The disappointing end of the game Friday was Dauphin's power play which finished the night 0 for 9. The Kings' penalty kill went 5 for 6.
The loss drops the Kings to 1-2-0-0 on the young season. They'll play the final affair in this early season four game set with the Wolverines tomorrow, it'll shift back to Dauphin for the finale.
