DAUPHIN, MB - Make it seven straight games without a regulation loss for the Dauphin Kings following a 4-3 victory over the Wayway Wolverines Friday night at Credit Union Place.
Dauphin jumped out to a hot start Friday. At one point they were out shooting Wayway 9-0 and were eventually rewarded when Kolby Johnson tallied his first goal in the MJHL at the midway point of the opening frame.
The Wolverines would eventually tie things up in the second period, which was a pretty flat one for the Dauphin Kings.
In the third Wayway grabbed the lead twice, but the Kings answered back both times to make it a 3-3 contest with half a period to go. Dauphin got goals from Leeam Tivers (4) and Riley Shamray (9). With less than five minutes to play Dauphin would regain the lead when Kolby Johnson grabbed his second of the night.
Ethan Slobodzian did the rest of the work, shutting the door in the final minutes to earn the win between the pipes. In the end he turned aside 39 of 42 shots while his team fired 40 on the Wayway goal.
Wayway had two power play markers on Friday while the Kings failed on all their opportunities.
The win improves Dauphin's record to 17-12-3 on the campaign and keeping them fourth in the standings, now two points ahead of Virden for fifth and four back of Steinbach for third.
Next up for the Kings is Tractor Lotto Night. It goes Sunday at 4:00pm inside Credit Union Place and the game is sponsored by Reit-Syd Equipment in Dauphin!
