Kings Beat Top Ranked Pistons

STEINBACH, MB - The Dauphin Kings were short bodies and had two forwards playing defence but that didn't stop them from beating the fourth ranked team in the country Saturday as the picked up a 4-3 overtime victory against the Steinbach Pistons.

It was no doubt one of the best games of the season for a number of Kings and the team as a whole. In the opening period Dauphin opened the scoring when Thomas Hansell (13) scored on the man advantage off a nice setup by Wilson Northey. Later in the frame Bradyn Smelski (2) threw a puck on goal that bounced in to give Dauphin a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes.

In the middle frame the Pistons bounced back, making it 2-2 by the midway point of the period. Dauphin would stay cool, scoring late when Wilson Northey tallied his ninth of the campaign, it was also his third point of the evening.

The third period saw the Pistons capitalize shorthanded to tie things up, sending the game to overtime.

In the extra frame McCullough Park (6) blocked a shot at the Dauphin blue line and ended up with a breakaway where he went five-hole to give the Kings the two points.

Brennan Kitchen was excellent in goal for the Kings. He stopped 52 of the 55 shots he faced while his team put 32 on the Steinbach net.

The Kings were perfect against the MJHL's number one ranked Power Play, going 3 for 3 and they scored on their own man advantage, ending the night 1 for 4.

The win puts Dauphin at 13-37-2 on the season. The club will get a couple days off before their next road game which comes Wednesday night in OCN. Game time is 7:00pm!
