PORTAGE, MB - A depleted Dauphin Kings lineup couldn't keep pace with the second ranked Portage Terriers in an 8-1 loss Friday night.
The Kings were missing five regulars from their lineup, which saw two AP's draw into the lineup.
The first period saw the Kings fall behind 1-0. The opening 20 minutes was easily Dauphin's best period of the night as the club had numerous scoring chances with the Terriers winning the shots battle 11-7.
The second period had Portage pulling away, scoring six goals to make it 7-1 after 40 minutes. Ian Briscoe (4) had Dauphin's lone goal off a nice tip in front of the Portage net. McCullough Park and Jacob Evans had the assists.
In the third period just one goal was scored and it was by the Terriers to make it 8-1. Portage had a goal on the man advantage and the Penalty Kill Friday night. The Kings failed to score on four opportunities.
Nick Hatley (D - Pembina Valley Hawks) & Rylan Hoffman (F - Eastman Selects) were the AP's that drew into the Kings' lineup. Both played well considering the situation. Hoffman had a couple scoring chances in the opening 20 minutes. Not dressed for the Kings Friday were Kyle Oleksiuk, Samson Mouland, Coby Proctor, Landon Lushanko & Matt Bartel.
Justin Anderson and Brennan Kitchen shared time between the pipes Friday. Anderson gave up four goals on 28 shots while Kitchen allowed three on eight shots.
The Kings now head to Winnipeg where they'll get set for Saturday's game in Steinbach against the Pistons. Opening face off is slated for 7:30pm!
