DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings have matched their win total from the 2017-18 season following a 5-2 victory over the Neepawa Natives Saturday night at Credit Union Place.
It was once again a slow start for the Kings, but unlike Friday, the club never fell behind by more than a goal. The Natives opened the scoring just over a minute into the affair, but Dauphin roared back with two unanswered goals in the first period. Sammy Mouland (3) and Carter Sawchuk (8) treated the fans to goals less than four minutes apart.
The second period saw the two teams go scoreless and enter the final frame with Dauphin ahead 2-1.
In the third period Neepawa's Scott Mickoski scored to tie things up at two, but while celebrating his goal the forward took a penalty which led to the Kings' game winner that came of the stick of Riley Shamray (7). Shamray (8) and Bradyn Smeslki (2) would add empty netters for the Kings to seal the deal.
There were no penalties in the game until the final period. Dauphin went 1 for 2, Neepawa was 1 for 3.
Bryan Landsberger took his second straight win between the pipes against Neepawa. He stopped 29 of 31 shots, his team had 33.
Dauphin's record goes to 14-12-1 on the season and, for now, they jump up into a tie for fourth in the MJHL standings with the Selkirk Steelers. The Kings get the next few days off before returning to Credit Union Place Wednesday to battle the Winnipeg Blues.
The game is sponsored by McMunn & Yates in Dauphin!
