NEEPAWA, MB - The Dauphin Kings were down 4-1 early in the third period, but they battled and won the game 5-4 in overtime.
The Kings once again started the affair late, falling behind 1-0 in the opening half of the first period. Dauphin would get within one in the middle frame when Riley Shamray notched his sixth of the season on a seeing eye wrist shot from the point. The celebration was short lived however as the Natives would tally again about two minutes later.
In the third period Neepawa scored in the first four minutes to go ahead 4-1. Dauphin would wake up at this point, controlling the game the rest of the way. First Avery Smith (6) would walk in and score on a wrist shot to make it 4-2. Five minutes later Nakodan Greyeyes would mix in his fourth of the year to get the Kings within one. Then on a late power play Eamonn Miller (5) would push home a rebound to tie things up at four.
In overtime the Natives were given a man advantage early, but the Kings killed it off. Jaxon Heeney the went up the ice in final minute of the period and pulled his hero card to give the Kings the victory.
The final shots were 43-43 for both clubs and both notched goals on the power play Friday. Bryan Landsberger picked up the win between the pipes. He was solid in the affair, even after being run over by a few Neepawa players throughout the night.
Dauphin improves to 13-12-1 on the year and will look for two more points against Neepawa Saturday when the home-and-home series shifts back to Dauphin.
Game time at Credit Union Place Saturday is 7:30pm!
