DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings started out well but faded as the game went on in a 8-3 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals Saturday night.
The Kings scored all three of their goals Saturday in the first period. The first came off the stick of Kyle Oleksiuk after Dauphin fell behind 1-0 in the opening two minutes. The Kings second goal gave the team a 2-1 lead when McCullough Park scored on the man advantage. Virden, however, would score three unanswered to go up 4-2 before Riley Shamray notched his first of the season to make it a 4-3 affair through 20 minutes. The Kings had two man advantage goals in the first.
In the second and third periods it was all Virden however. The Oil Capitals scored one in the second and three in the final frame to take the contest.
Matt Kustra took the loss in goal for Dauphin but couldn't be blamed for the loss, he stopped 47 of 55 shots while his team put 34 on the Virden goal.
The Kings Power Play had two goals on Saturday evening while Virden had one. The Oil Capitals also scored shorthanded, the marker was the first shorthanded goal against for the Kings this season.
Dauphin's record drops to 4-14-1 on the season. They'll continue their five game home stand with game two of the stretch on Tuesday when they battle the Neepawa Natives. Game time at Credit Union Place is 7:30pm!
