Natives Edge Kings In OT

DAUPHIN, MB - The Neepawa Natives were given seven man advantages and scored on two of them including the overtime winner to beat the Dauphin Kings 4-3 Tuesday night at Credit Union Place.

The Kings were the ones who opened the scoring in the affair when Wilson Northey tallied on Dauphin's only Power Play of the night in the early stages of the first. Neepawa would respond with two of their own goals in the first, going up 2-1 after 20 minutes.

In the middle frame the Kings fell behind 3-1 before rebounding when Riley Shamray scored his second goal in as many games to make it 3-2.

The score would remain the same until the later stages of the final period when Riese Gaber scored his 13th of the season right after the Kings had killed off another penalty.

In overtime the Kings had an early chance when the puck bounced off Brendan Arnold's stick in front. The Natives were eventually rewarded with their seventh Power Play and were able to score on it with only seconds remaining to take the contest 4-3 in OT.

As mentioned Neepawa finished the night 2 for 7 on the man advantage while Dauphin was 1 for 1.

Matt Kustra was excellent in goal. He turned away 45 of the 49 shots he faced in four periods while the Kings had 37 shots on the Neepawa net.

The loss sends the Kings to a record of 4-14-2 on the season. They gain a point but cannot snap their losing skid. They'll try to pick up two points on Thursday when they welcome the OCN Blizzard to town. Game time is 7:30pm!
