VIRDEN, MB - The Dauphin Kings couldn't get the ball rolling in an 8-1 loss to the Oil Capitals Friday night in Virden.
Dauphin gave up two goals in the opening period, four in the middle frame and two more in the third period.
Matthew Boren had the lone bright spot of the night for the Kings, scoring his first goal in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with the assists on the marker going to Bradley Estrada & Jaymes Knee during the second period.
Ismael Ralsten started the game between the pipes for the Kings but did not finish. He turned aside 17 of 22 shots before Matt Kustra returned to the crease for the first time in almost three weeks. Kustra looked ok, allowing three goals on 30 shots against. His team fired 17 on the Virden net.
Special Teams were in favour of the Oil Capitals on Friday. Virden ended the night 2 for 5 while the Kings finished 0 for 3.
Dauphin's record goes to 4-13-1 with the loss at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.
The game was the opening affair in a home-and-home series between the two teams. The Kings will try to bounce back when they entertain the Oil Capitals Saturday night at Credit Union Place. The game is sponsored by Dauphin's Countryfest which has its tickets going on sale this Monday!
