Great effort leads to big win for Kings

The Dauphin Kings put together a near complete performance on Friday as they earned two huge points against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Opening a home-and-home with their divisional rival, Dauphin scored five straight goals in a decisive 5-1 win.

It was Waywayseecappo  who opened the scoring in the game as Aiden Sotas made a very nice move in front to beat Cole Sheffield with just more than three minutes left in the first, but the Kings quickly responded and took over.

Jamie Valentino scored on a tip shot with just less than two minutes left and then just 46 seconds later, Logan Walker made the perfect pass in front to Rylan Gibbs and the hometown fan favourite did the rest as he scored his sixth of the season as Dauphin took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Alex Senf then gave Dauphin a 3-1 lead on a perfect shot that went right through the five-hole of Tresor Wotton and then Matthew Gough scored his 17th of the season. It was a special goal for Gough as he pointed to the sky as it was his first game back and first goal since returning to the team after travelling out east for a funeral after a death in his family.

Blake Boudreau then scored on the power-play early in the second as Dauphin skated off with a convincing 5-1 win.

With the win, the West Division standings are that much tighter. With a record of 21-14-2-1, Dauphin remains in fourth place in the West Division, but they’re only two points back of Waywayseecappo for first and they trail OCN and Swan Valley by just one point for second.

The Kings and Wolverines will lock horns once again on Saturday evening at the Arena Complex in Waywayseecappo.
