DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings got a lead and this time didn't surrender it, beating the Selkirk Steelers 7-3 Saturday night at Credit Union Place.
The game was much more different than Friday's affair. Dauphin didn't score first, but once they did they didn't look back. The opening period had both clubs scoring in the first six minutes. Dauphin would take a 2-1 lead to the dressing room after Wayde Johannesson (2) and Carter Sawchuk (4) picked up markers.
The second period saw the Kings pull away. After Selkirk tied it early the Kings scored five unanswered goals to go up 7-2 on the visitors. Scorers in the second period were Riley Shamray (2), Riley Buller (2), Jaymes Knee (1) and Jacob Evans (2).
Dauphin would score one goal in the third to make it that 7-2 score. The tally came from Mitchell Joss (2). Then in the second half of the period the Steelers made it 7-3.
Bryan Landsberger started and finished his first game in the MJHL, stopping 34 of 37 shots for the Kings. His counterpart Logan Thiessen allowed seven goals on 47 shots.
For the first time this season the Kings were on the better side of the Special Teams battle. They scored three power play goals and didn't allow any against.
It was arguably the best effort the Kings have put forth so far this season and improves their record to 5-3-0 on the campaign. Now Dauphin will once again head out on the road for five straight starting in Neepawa on Wednesday. The Kings' next home game is Saturday October 20th against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.
Happy Thanksgiving!
