DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings battled through some adversity for their second straight win on home ice, a 6-5 shootout victory over the Selkirk Steelers Friday night.
Dauphin had two two goal leads in the affair. The first came after Riley Buller and Grady Hobbs both picked up their firsts of the season. Selkirk, however, would have things evened up by the early stages of the second period.
The Kings would bounce back in the middle frame, going up 4-2 on goals by George King (1) and Avery Smith (2). They would take that two goal advantage to the final period.
In the third some bad penalties by the Kings got the Steelers back in it. Selkirk would score twice on the man advantage in the third and pick up a goal even strength to make it a 5-4 contest late in the period. Grady Hobbs (2) wasn't going to let the Steelers get away this time however. He scored with 11 seconds left to get the game to overtime.
A back and forth overtime period had the fans both in and out of their seats. In the end neither team could score so the tilt went to a shootout.
In the breakaway contest George King treated the fans to a great shootout goal and Nakodan Greyeyes put it away with his second shootout goal of the season.
Brennan Kitchen picked up the win between the pipes, stopping 33 of 38 shots while his team put 49 shots on the Selkirk net.
Dauphin had one goal on the man advantage on Friday while Selkirk tallied three times.
The win puts the Kings at 4-3-0 on the season. They'll look for more points against the Steelers on Saturday when the two clubs face off at Credit Union Place again. Opening face off for the Thanksgiving game presented by NoFrills is slated for 7:30pm!
