Kings Fall To Pistons In Steinbach

STEINBACH, MB - The Dauphin Kings had a good opening 20 minutes, but couldn't carry on the momentum in a 6-2 loss to the Steinbach Pistons Saturday night.

The Kings actually came out flat, allowing Steinbach to go up 2-0 on them before the midway point of the first period. However, the Kings responded with two quick goals just past the 10 minute mark to make it a 2-2 contest. Dauphin scored when Brendan Arnold notched his first of the season and then the team tallied their first power play goal of the year when Leeam Tivers banged home his first in the MJHL. Steinbach would pick up another late in the period to go up 3-2 after 20.

In the second period the Kings came apart a little when two of their defencemen suffered upper body injuries. Jacob Evans and Landon Russell both left the game in the middle frame. When it was all said and done the Pistons grew their lead to 6-2 after 40.

Bryan Landsberger stepped into the net in the third period and was one of the bright spots for Dauphin. He turned away all of the 14 shots he faced. His counterpart, Brody Palmer, stopped 21 of 27 shots. Brennan Kitchen had the night off. The Kings had 28 shots on Saturday.

Special Teams saw Steinbach score two power play goals while Dauphin had just one.

The loss puts the Kings at 2-2-0 on the season. They'll conclude their three game in three night road swing on Sunday when they visit the Winnipeg Blues for the first time this season. Puck drop is an early one, 6:30pm from the Bell MTS Iceplex.
