Kings End Season With Loss In Virden

VIRDEN, MB - The Dauphin Kings finished their season with a 6-4 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals Saturday night.

The Kings opened the scoring Saturday when Riley Shamray (13) notched his first of two on the night. It came just over two minutes in. Virden would respond at the midway point of the first period. Dauphin, however, would retake their lead when Eamonn Miller picked up his 12th of the campaign. Virden would tally two more before the end of the frame and not look back.

In the second the Oil Capitals had the only goal to go ahead 4-2.

The third period saw Dauphin battle back to a 4-3 score with Shamray's (14) second of the evening. Virden would answer back to go ahead 5-3 and then 6-3 before Ian Tookenay snagged his 5th of the year with Alex Cattani scoring his first MJHL point in his Kings debut!

Ethan Slobodzian suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 22 of 28 shots while the Kings fired 34 on the Virden net.

Dauphin was the only team to score on the man advantage Saturday.

The loss ends the Kings regular season at 29-25-6. The game did not have any impact on the standings for Dauphin. They will start the MJHL Post Season on Friday when they visit the Swan Valley Stampeders. The best of seven series shifts back to Dauphin on Sunday March 10th. Tickets will be available at the South Ticket Office starting on Wednesday at noon!
