Kings Beat Portage For Third Straight Win

PORTAGE, MB - The Dauphin Kings are winners of three straight following a 3-2 win over the Portage Terriers Sunday night.

It was a greasy win for the Kings who continue to play well and now see their record move to the .500 mark for the first time since the second game of the season.

The Kings got going early on when Landon Russell sprung Austin Lamotte (2) on a breakaway in the opening period.

Dauphin would take that 1-0 advantage into the middle frame and Avery Smith (5) would double it after a nice feed on the rush from Hugo Laflamme. Then in the final two minutes of the period Baron Thompson (7) would give the Kings some insurance when he chopped home a loose puck on a Dauphin man advantage.

Portage would start the final frame with a lengthy 5-on-3 but they could only convert once to make it a 3-2 game. Dauphin would hold on as Matthias Smith played very well as the clock ran down.

Smith ended the night with 38 saves on 40 shots while his team had 18 on the Portage goal "officially".

The Kings ended the night 1 for 5 on the power play and 7 for 8 on the penalty kill.

Dauphin sees their record improve to 6-6-0-1 on the season. They'll see their next affair TV Tuesday when they host the Virden Oil Capitals at Credit Union Place. Opening face off is 7:30pm!
