STEINBACH, MB - A great first two periods by the Dauphin Kings wasn't enough in a 3-1 loss to the Steinbach Pistons Saturday night.
The Kings had a much better start in this contest compared to Friday's in Winkler, but despite that they couldn't get any pucks to the back of the net in the opening period as the two teams skated to a scoreless draw after 20 minutes.
In the second period Carter Sawchuk opened the scoring with his 11th of the campaign off a Grady Hobbs shot and rebound. The Pistons would eventually even things up later in the frame to make it 1-1 going to the third.
In the third period the Kings fell asleep early and it cost them. The Pistons would go ahead 2-1 just over a minute in. They would then pad their lead to make it 3-1 in the final six minutes.
Dauphin had some good chances in the final frame but their opportunities were either stopped or missed the net. In total the Kings had 23 shots Saturday. Bryan Landsberger suffered the loss in goal, turning aside 33 of 36 shots.
Dauphin's lone goal was even strength and they gave up one power play marker. Steinbach went 1 for 5 on the man advantage while the Kings ended the evening 0 for 3.
The loss puts the Kings at .500 on the season, 18-18-4. Their next action comes Tuesday when they go to OCN for the final time this season to play the Blizzard. Game time is slated for 7:00pm.
The next Kings home game happens Friday January 11th against the Portage Terriers! Game sponsor is RBC!
