Another Oil Capital challenge

The Dauphin Kings scored two straight goals late in the third period six days ago to down the Virden Oil Capitals and the two teams will meet once again on Friday night at Credit Union Place.

It’s the sixth meeting of the season between the two teams, with Dauphin winning four of the first five games. The Kings enter the game in first place in the West Division, one point ahead of Waywayseecappo while Virden is looking to get back in a playoff spot. They’re two points back of Neepawa for fourth in the division, Neepawa plays a pair of home games this weekend against Swan Valley

It’s the first of two games between the two teams this weekend, with a rematch set for Sunday evening at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. You can hear Sunday’s game with Darnell Duff on 730CKDM.

“They’re well-coached and they’re always well prepared,” said Doug Hedley. “They have some speed and can create off the rush. We feel that we can work their D-unit and use our speed to our advantage.”

Last week was somewhat of a rough game between the teams as two Oil Capitals were kicked out of the game. One of the penalties resulted in a three-game suspension for Branden Huminuk for a hit to the head of Jayden Harris.

Friday’s game kicks off an extremely busy next week for Dauphin. After this weekend, they’re in Swan River to play the Stampeders on Wednesday before playing a home-and-home against OCN next weekend.
