Kings’ look for big response

Mathew Gough led the way with a goal and two assists as the Dauphin Kings put up five goals on Saturday night.

Unfortunately for the club, those five goals weren’t enough to win the game as Collin Jennings completed his hat-trick late in the third period in a 6-5 win for Swan Valley.

Now heading into game three of the series on Tuesday night, the Stampeders have a two games to nothing lead in the best-of-seven. It is the second straight year that Dauphin and Swan Valley are meeting in the playoffs.

Dauphin opened up a 3-0 series lead last year and this year, they are hoping to stay away from losing the first three games of the series.

Keys to Success:

1: Stay out of the penalty box. Swan Valley scored four power-play goals in the second period on Saturday, three of which came in a five-minute span.

2: Continue to drive the net and make life tough on Kobe Grant. He’s the MJHL Goaltender of the Year, but the Kings have proven they can beat him.

3: Stop Jennings. Much of the talk has been about the Stampeders’ first line in Keck, Jones, and Sauder and for a good reason, but Jennings is the one putting on a show. He has six points in the first two games of the series.

Dating back to the regular season, Swan Valley has now won 11 games in a row and two more wins would send them into the league’s Final Four.
