Coming up clutch, two more points

Jakob Brook tied it late and Mason Smith played the role of overtime hero on Friday night as the Dauphin Kings won another thriller.

Opening their final weekend of 2022 on home ice, the Smith scored on the power play in overtime as Dauphin downed their Parkland rival Stampeders, 4-3.

A game in which Dauphin trailed very late, Brook scored with just 3.7 seconds left in the contest to force overtime. He tipped in a shot from his brother, Aidan.

It was a goaltending battle throughout the contest as Cole Sheffield — who earned the win — made 39 saves for Dauphin. Kobe Grant; meanwhile, was outstanding for Swan Valley as he made 58 saves.

Dauphin came out on fire in the second period as Jakob and Myles Yearwood scored for Dauphin as they held a 2-0 lead, less than three minutes into the second.

Noah Wilson, Collin Jennings, and Owen Harris would score for the Stampeders as they opened up a 3-2 lead. That set the stage for Jakob as his goal forced overtime. Then Mason Smith did the rest with his ninth of the season.

Dauphin now moves to 18-12-2 as they’re in third place in the West Division, just two points back of Swan Valley for first. Dauphin returns to the ice on Saturday night as they welcome Waywayseecappo to town. You can watch the game on HockeyTV. It is Dauphin’s final game before the Christmas break.
