4th straight defeat for Kings

A tough second period on Saturday was the downfall for the Dauphin Kings.

The Winkler Flyers scored three times in the second period, and they skated off with a solid 5-2 win. Winkler’s win saw them sweep the weekend series after a 3-1 win on Friday.

Dauphin found themselves down 1-0 after 20 minutes, but Mason Smith gave the Kings some life with a beautiful goal just 23 seconds into the second period. Winkler took over from there as Zach Nicolas, Trent Sambrook, and Jayce Legaarden found the back of the net as Winkler took a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Jamie Valentino scored his first as a King early in the third, but it wasn’t enough. Xyon Kiemeney sealed the game with his fourth of the season into an empty net late in the third period.

Dauphin has now dropped four straight games as they’re now 14-2-2. Winkler is now 18-5-4-1 as they inch closer to Steinbach for first place in the MGEU East Division.

Next up for Dauphin is a trip to Portage for a game against the Terriers on Wednesday night. Dauphin then heads to Winnipeg on Friday before returning to Dauphin for Tractor Lotto Sunday and a date with the Stampeders in eight days.
