Three Kings off to showcase

A trio of Dauphin Kings are heading to Winnipeg later this month to take on the best in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The MJHL/SJHL Showcase is set to return from January 31 to February 1 in Winnipeg and Jakob Brook will be playing in the event and he will be joined by Matthew Gough and Owen Wareham.

As team captain this year, Wareham is a tremendous leader on and off the ice. With a contagious work ethic, the Rivers native returned to the team after helping them win the league title last season. In 36 games, Wareham is enjoying a career year with two goals and 23 points, a total that has already surpassed last year’s production.

Returning to his home region to play with the Kings after 187 games played in the Western Hockey League, Brook has been a consistent offensive threat since arriving. Pairing his great speed with a sweet release, Brook is a constant threat when he’s on the ice. In 12 games so far with Dauphin, Brook has averaged a point-per-game with five goals and seven assists.

In his final year as a junior player, Gough has taken his game to the next level as of late. Leading the team in scoring with 16 goals and 16 assists, there is no surprise that the 20-year-old will compete in the event. In just three games in 2023 so far, Gough has racked up four goals to go along with one assist.

The Showcase takes place at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex in Winnipeg from January 31 to February 1.
