Sheffield named league POW, great first week back

Cole Sheffield came to play to open 2024 for the Dauphin Kings.

Returning to the City of Sunshine after the Christmas break, Sheffield was on his game over the weekend as the Kings picked up a pair of important wins, both of which came against East Division opponents.

On Friday, Sheffield was superb making 24 saves to record his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win against the Winnipeg Freeze.

Then on Sunday, Cole was rock solid once again as he turned away 30 shots to win his 15th game of the season. Only Eric Reid (19) of Virden and Cole Plowman (17) of Steinbach have more wins between the pipes than Cole this year.

Sheffield improved his save percentage to .908 and his goals-against average to 2.48.

Dauphin has a busy week coming up as they open things on Tuesday when they head to the Yellowhead Centre for a key West Division matchup against the Titans. Then on Saturday, Dauphin returns to Credit Union Place before a quick turnaround that will see the team head up north to play the Blizzard on Sunday evening.

Sitting at 18-11-1, the Kings are in third place in the West Division. They are 10 points behind the Blizzard, but Dauphin has five games in hand on them. The Kings are also six points up on the Titans.
