Morris putting together great rookie season

After his first solid training camp in Canada, it sure didn’t take Luke Morris long to help his new team win a game. After scoring in the team’s first game of the season on September 17, Morris scored the team’s only goal for the second straight game the following night, as Dauphin earned a 1-0 shutout win over the Neepawa Titans.

And with 22 games now in the books and Dauphin sitting at 18-4, Morris has eight goals and eight assists and his work ethic that is one thing that stands out every single practice and game. Morris has also visited elementary schools in Dauphin this year and he’s enjoying every second of his first junior hockey season in Canada.

“It’s been amazing so far, I’m really enjoying my time here on and off the ice,” said Morris. “I also want to thank the entire coaching staff. They allowed me to come here and gave me a chance to show what I can do.”

Morris says he didn’t really know what to expect entering the season, he was looking forward to starting a clean slate. Morris will be back on the ice on Friday when the team opens a home-and-home with the Portage Terriers. At 18-4, Dauphin is on top of the MJHL standings and they are now six points ahead of Waywayseecappo in the West Division.

It’s been well documented how much success Dauphin is having on the ice, but things are going extremely well off the ice as well. Morris says this year’s team is one of a kind.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been on a team that has this much chemistry,” said Morris. “Everyone is friends with everyone. We have a great leadership group and they’re doing such a great job of leading us. The chemistry is incredible and we’re looking forward to this weekend.”

Off the ice, Luke is really enjoying playing Fortnite with his billet brothers and a lot of mini sticks. He’s also trying to learn poker with the team.

A great young man, Luke has been a difference-maker to this year’s team and he is loving his time in Dauphin.

You can hear Luke’s full chat with Darnell Duff during the Kings Power Play Show at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon on 730CKDM.
