DAUPHIN, MB - With just three forward lines in play the Dauphin Kings bought in and played one of their best defensive games of the season, beating the Wayway Wolverines 3-2 on Treaty 2 Night at Credit Union Place.

The Kings opened the scoring in the second period when Baron Thompson made a superb saucer pass to Brendan Arnold (6) on a two-on-one and the captain blasted it home to give his group a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame Avery Smith (10) snapped one to give Dauphin a 2-0 lead. Before the period concluded Wayway would tally to make it a 2-1 affair.

In the third, just 38 seconds in, Brendan Arnold (7) would tally again after another nice setup, this time from Grady Hobbs. Wayway would respond about two minutes later but the Kings would clamp down defensively to earn the two points in a game that saw them play with just 15 skaters.

Matthias Smith snagged the win in goal, turning aside 23 of 25 shots while the group in front of him fired 35 on the Wolverines' goal.

Dauphin finished the night 0 for 4 on the power play and 3 for 4 on the penalty kill.

The win snaps the Kings' four game slide and bumps them to 17-14-3-2 on the year. The club will close out 2019 Sunday afternoon (4:00pm) when they host the OCN Blizzard at Credit Union Place.
