Hedley named top coach

Doug Hedley has won the Muzz MacPherson Memorial Award as a result of being named coach of the year.

Since joining the organization a few years ago, Hedley has turned things around dramatically. The season prior to him returning to Dauphin, the Kings won just 14 games. Before last season was cancelled, Hedley led the team to the playoffs in the previous two years.

This year, Hedley has the team ranked first in the West Division and they’re still trying to chase down the Steinbach Pistons for first place in the league. A tremendous teacher of the game, Hedley’s work ethic and dedication to the Kings organization have turned the team into title contenders.

More awards:

Hedley isn’t the only King to win some hardware. Carson Cherepak has been named the MJHL’s goaltender of the year and 20-year-old Parker Malchuk was named the league’s top defenceman. Brayden Dube was a nominee for rookie of the year; however, he came up just short in his 16-year-old season.
