DAUPHIN, MB – The Dauphin Kings never trailed in a 3-2 overtime victory over the Virden Oil Capitals for Ukrainian Night Saturday at Credit Union Place.

The game was very well attended with over 1700 fans in the seats, featured a great atmosphere and of loads of fun.

When it comes to the game the Kings got off to a solid start with a power play goal coming off the stick of Trevor Selk (2). The score of 1-0 would be on the board until the third period when the Virden Oil Capitals tied things up at one a piece.

Dauphin would respond later in the frame when Ashton Clark tallied his 15th of the season. Virden, however, would rebound again, getting the score even with seven minutes to play.

In overtime the Kings used their speed and controlled the play and Trevor Selk (3) ended up being the hero, scoring his second of the night.

Brandon Holtby was superb in net, turning aside 50 of 52 shots while his team countered with 26 on the Virden goal.

Power Plays and Special Teams were once again in favour of Dauphin, they went 1 for 5 on the Power Play and 8 for 8 on the Penalty Kill.

The victory is key for the Kings and now pulls them within two points of the Swan Valley Stampeders for the MJHL’s final playoff spot. The Stampeders now have a game in hand on the Kings. The Neepawa Natives, who also won on Saturday, are two points back of Dauphin.

Next up for the Kings is a date with the Natives on Tuesday. Game time at Credit Union Place is 7:30pm!
