Ziprick, Kings Beat Wolverines In OT

WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB - A rollercoaster ride of a game saw the Dauphin Kings pick up a 6-5 overtime victory over the Wayway Wolverines Wednesday night.

The game started with the Kings dominating the opening period. Hugo Laflamme (1), Avery Smith (4) & Grady Hobbs (3) all scored to give Dauphin a 3-0 lead in the first before Wayway made it 3-1 late.

The second period had the Kings starting goaltender Matthias Smith go down after the Wolverines made it 3-2. In came 16 year old Keaton Ziprick of Russell, MB. Dauphin would give up two more goals before the end of the frame and trail 4-3 after 40 minutes.

In the third the Kings buckled down and got back on even terms when Grady Hobbs (4) scored 22 seconds into the frame. Then Baron Thompson (3) treated himself on the power play, ripping a wrist shot by the Wayway netminder to give the Kings a 5-4 advantage five minutes in. Wayway would go on to tie things up later on.

Dauphin would go on to control most of the overtime period and eventually were rewarded when Hugo Laflamme (2) launched one through an open hole to get the Kings two points..Grady Hobbs (2G, 2A) and Nakodan Greyeyes (4A) both mixed in four point nights while Baron Thompson (1G, 2A) and Hugo Laflamme (2G, 1A) had three points.

The Kings out shot Wayway 34-31 and both teams ended up 1 for 5 on the man advantage. Keaton Ziprick picks up his first MJHL win in relief of Matthias Smith.

The win improves Dauphin's record to 3-5-0-1 on the year. They'll look for a third straight victory Saturday when they welcome the Neepawa Natives to Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm!
