DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings dressed a very young lineup Monday night at Credit Union Place, but the kids weren't phased in a 3-2 shootout victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders.
Parklanders Zach Grouette and Keaton Ziprick were key to the victory in goal. Grouette started the contest and stopped 33 of 34 shots. Ziprick took over in the second and turned aside 23 of 24 shots. Ziprick then turned away four of five shooters in the affair's shootout.
Scoring for the Kings on Monday night were forward Drayden Kurbatoff (02) and D-man Owen Wareham (02). In the shootout Kurbatoff and Brayden Stevenson both tallied.
Power plays saw both teams with four opportunities. Swan Valley scored once on the man advantage while Dauphin failed to capitalize.
For Dauphin the Kings dressed six 2004 born players and just four 18 year olds. Swan Valley's lineup consisted of ten 18 year olds and only two 2004 born players.
The Kings earn their first win of the pre season and will now hit the road north to take on the Stampeders Tuesday in Swan River. The affair is a 7:30pm puck drop.
Dauphin's next home pre season game happens Thursday when they welcome the SJHL's Melville Millionaires to Credit Union Place. That game is also a 7:30pm start time.
