Wolverines Take Down Kings

WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB – The Dauphin Kings had a bad opening period and they couldn’t recover in a 6-1 loss to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Wednesday night.

The Wolverines outplayed the Kings from the first puck drop and by the time the first period Dauphin was almost out of the game. Waylay scored three goals in the first, two in the second and added one more in the final frame to take the contest.

Ian Briscoe was the lone goal scorer for the Kings with Daniel Chartrand and Darren Gisti getting assist on the Winnipeg forward’s fifth of the season. The goal also extended Briscoe’s point streak to seven games. He has five goals and three assists in that span.

Even though the score was lopsided Brandon Holtby couldn’t be faulted in net. The Regina product played well, but was left out to dry a couple of times. In the end the 20 year old faced 34 shots while the Kings fired 33 on the Wolverines’ goal.

Special Teams were in favour of Waywayseecappo on this night. The Wolverines went 1 for 5 while the Kings had just one man advantage and failed to score on it.

The loss drops the Kings to 14-29-5 on the regular season. With the Swan Valley Stampeders losing to the Steinbachs Pistons Wednesday night the Kings and Stamps remain tied for 8th spot in the standings.

Next action for the Kings comes on Friday when the club begins a two game in two night stretch in Winnipeg against the Blues. They’ll close out the southern swing on Saturday when they tangle with the Flyers in Winkler!
