Wolverines Stay Alive, Beat Kings 5-3

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings gave up a late third period goal and picked up their first loss of the post season, a 5-3 decision in Waywayseecappo.

The Kings came out strong in the opening 20 minutes. They'd open the scoring in the first period with Ethan Stewart grabbing his second of the playoffs. Wayway would respond with less than three minutes to go to make it 1-1 after the opening frame.

In the second both teams scored on the Power Play. First it was Wayway taking a 2-1 lead but before the period was out Havryil Simchuk notched his first of the post season to make it 2-2 heading to the third.

The third period saw the Kings get a taste of their own medicine as it was the Wolverines who broke through. After Wayway made it 3-2 Declan Hoad (1) would tie it up but a scramble in front of the Dauphin goal with less than two minutes to play saw the puck in the back of the net. Wayway would grab an empty netter to make it a 5-3 final.

Cole Sheffield took the loss in net, stopping 17 of 21 shots. The Kings once again out shot Wayway. They had 34.

Power Plays had both the Kings and Wolverines go 1 for 3.

The loss means game five will happen Saturday at Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:30pm. The Speedy Glass South Ticket Office opens at 10:00am!
