DAUPHIN, MB - Despite being heavily outplayed in the third period and overtime the Waywayseecappo Wolverines grabbed a 1-0 series lead in a 4-3 overtime win Friday night in Dauphin.

It was the Wolverines who opened the scoring 6:30 in and played well for the first 20, but Dauphin would  respond just over a minute later when Joey Kubas would tally on the man advantage for the Kings. Waywayseecappo would grab the lead before the period was out, scoring with under nine minutes to go. They out shot the Kings 15-9 in the first.

In the middle frame the Kings would tie it up, this time it was Ty Pratte on the Power Play, putting Dauphin at 2 for 2 on the night and 2-2 on the scoreboard. Dauphin out shot Wayway 14-9 in the second.

In the third the Kings were dominant, outshooting Wayway 15-3. Ethan Stewart scored his first of the playoffs 48 seconds in. The Wolverines would get their fifth Power Play of the night later in the period and score on it to make it 3-3, but most of the play was in the Waywayseecappo end for the frame.

In overtime the shots were even but most of the action was in the Waywayseecappo end. The Wolverines would go up the ice and score with about four minutes to go to grab the 1-0 series lead.

Power Plays were in favour of Waywayseecappo Friday night. The Wolverines went 2 for 5 while the Kings finished 2 for 4.

Shots were for the Kings 40-30 with Hunter Bauer suffering the loss in goal.

Game two of the best-of-seven series goes Sunday night in Waywayseecappo. The series will return to Dauphin on Tuesday for game three. Start time Sunday in Waywayseecappo is 7:30pm while Tuesday's affair back in Dauphin is a 7:00pm puck drop.
