Wolverines Outwork Kings

DAUPHIN, MB - The Dauphin Kings gave up a goal in the first five minutes of each period Thursday night in a 4-2 loss to the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo.

Wayway's effort powered their team to victory on Thursday.

In the opening minutes things were a little flat and it was the Wolverines who capitalized on their first shot of the game just under three minutes in. Wayway would then score with less than three minutes to go in the frame to take a 2-0 to the middle period. Dauphoin out shot Wayway 7-5 in the first.

The second saw the Wolverines pick up where they left off. Less than five minutes in they scored to make it 3-0. Later in the frame the Wolverines got chippy. First a cross check to the face of Josh Schmidt went unnoticed by the officials. Schmidt left the game. Then later on Luke Myhre was drilled from behind, this time the officials saw the infraction which sent the Kings to a five minute man advantage which carried over to the third. Myhre also left the game.

In the third the Kings couldn't do anything with their five minute power play that carried over. In fact it was Waywayseecappo who scored on the man advantage a couple minutes after Dauphin's chance expired. Matthew Thomas got the Kings on the board late with his sixth of the season on the power play and Ethan Williment got his seventh with less than a minute to go but it was too little too late for Dauphin.

Power plays had Dauphin going 1 for 3 while Wayway was 1 for 5.

Cole Sheffield took the loss between the pipes for Dauphin. The Kings out shot Wayway 29-17 in the contest.

The Kings slip to 15-6-1-0 on the season. They remain tied for first in the MJHL's West Division and will see their next game action on Saturday when they visit the Portage Terriers. After that they'll return home to Dauphin to play the Oil Capitals next Friday.
