Wayway Gets By Dauphin

WAYWAYSEECAPPO, MB – A bad opening period snowballed into a bad first two periods for the Dauphin Kings in a 6-3 loss to the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo Tuesday night.

The Kings could never really get their feet or their game going and after falling behind they couldn’t recover.

The Wolverines grabbed an early 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes. Dauphin had a good response to start the second, but after getting the contest to 2-1 for Waylay, the Wolverines pulled away. They eventually went up 5-2 by the end of the second and added another tally by the time the contest was over. Dauphin’s third period was ok, but by then it was too little too late.

The game got a little chippy in the second and third periods, but nothing really came out of it.

Scoring Tuesday for Dauphin were Matthew Greening (3 & 4) and Graeme Hore. The official game sheet says Riese Gaber scored the Kings’ third marker, but the referee did not see the play and gave the goal to Gaber instead of Hore. Hore, Daniel Chartrand, Brendan Arnold and Trevor Selk had the assists for the Kings Tuesday.

Tanner Douglas took the loss between the pipes for the Kings. He stopped 26 of 32 shots while his team fired 33 shots on the Wayway goal.

The decision puts the Kings’ record at 2-9-0 on the MJHL campaign. They’ll continue their two weeks on the road Friday night when they visit the Steinbach Pistons for the first of two games in two nights. Opening face off Friday in Steinbach is 7:30pm!
